Hurricane Milton Relief Mission
Crusader Youth League is partnering with St. Henry District High School (shdhs.org), T1D Warriors (t1dw.org) and BigAngler Fishing Charters (bigangler.com) to deliver hurricane relief for communities in need in Florida.
BigAngler is located in the heart of Clearwater Beach FL where both recent hurricanes Milton and Helene have affected us, our neighbors and community. We have two full time employees Capt Andrew and Nathan. Our team had boots on the ground after Helene helping local businesses and residents with the aftermath. Through this we came together and decided to form a hurricane relief program at BigAngler to help our Florida communities affected by hurricanes in the future. Not knowing the future would come so quickly. We are quickly operationalizing for Milton relief. I will be heading down this Saturday the 12th with a uHaul, taking down the initial load of supplies and tools. I will meet up with the team to help distribute supplies to our needed communities and then we will go into volunteer mode. Where we will help with cleanup, debris removal, tree trimming and any other task that we can help people with. We may bring a tractor down with a front bucket to help and assist but we still have to assess the need on the ground today.
T1D Warriors is a non profit that Monica and I founded. The end goal is to help find a cure. Until then, our mission is to empower and support individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes. We strive to build a bigger and better community by raising awareness, creating better access to care, and finding ways for all to get involved. We just launched our Tampa FL chapter two weeks ago. One of our initiatives for 2025 is delivering diabetic supplies in disaster areas in the US. Diabetics need supplies whether it's testing strips, monitors, device recharging, glucose, batteries, insulin, internet / mobile connectivity to their medical teams. They need these things at all times no matter the situation. Diabetes does not care or go on hold for a disaster that may be happening around someone. This is why it's important to make sure that we can get to people in need and deliver the life saving supplies they need. With two recent hurricanes we feel that we cannot wait for 2025 and we need to act now. Part of this relief mission will be to make out reach to the diabetes in need and help or supply them with what they need. We will learn from this experience in how we can deliver better and more help during the next disaster.
Goal by Friday Night the 11th - Fill The Truck
I'll be heading out early Saturday morning, around 4 AM, and we need your help to fill the first truck with as many in-person donations as possible before then. The sooner we load up, the sooner we can get on the road and start making an impact on the ground. We've also created an Amazon donation wish list for other essential supplies—while most items won’t arrive in time for this initial trip, they will be included in our next delivery within the week.
Continued Support:
Even though I’m leaving this Saturday with the initial load please keep the supplies and goods coming. We will continue making weekly deliveries to Florida until everyone in need is helped. If we get enough supplies to run more than weekly trips we will do that. The important thing is to keep the supplies coming so we can deliver them to those in need.
